Biography of Angie Martinez | |||
|
Though Angie Martinez acted in independent hip hop movies like "Blood is Thicker Than Water" and "Paper Soldiers", she was waiting for a chance to prove herself as an actress to reckon with. Then came "Brown Sugar", a big budget film starring Taye Diggs, Queen Latifah and Sanaa Lathan. Critics were extremely surprised with her extraordinary acting abilities. Ebert & Roper labeled her 'a natural'. Her acting talents were critically acclaimed in "State Property 2" too. In all she worked in eight movies as of January 2007.
After radio, television and movies, the music industry was waiting with open arms to receive Angie Martinez to feel her 'Midas Touch'! Encouraged by her friend KRS-One, Angie Martinez appeared on his track "Heartbeat" from his 1996 album ‘I Got Next’. The song became a hit and built up strong fan following tempting another friend Lil' Kim to lure Angie Martinez to appear on a remix of her song "Not Tonight" for the "Nothing to Lose" soundtrack. This too became a success. Soon the label giants were competing with each other to sign this 'golden girl' to a recording contract. They thought her mere presence on their songs was enough to send those songs to dizzying heights on charts and ratings. Angie Martinez recorded songs with Beenie Man {"Tell Me Remix"}, Terror Squad {"Freak Out"}, N.O.R.E. {"Oh No Remix"}, Mary J. Blige {"Christmas in the City"} and Funkmaster Flex & Big Kap's compilation album The Tunnel {"Wow"}. She also recorded interludes or mix tapes by Kid Capri, DJ Clue and DJ Kayslay and appeared in the music video for Jay-Z and R. Kelly's "Guilty Until Proven Innocent". |
